about

Refining and defining a new streamlined System 7 sound, that can be found on their hypnotic album – ‘Encantado’. Exhilarating and elusive, S7 blend sounds and shades in their own unique ‘ambient techno’ style creating a diverse musical soundscape. Unlike any other groups, you can hear psychedelic guitar, dreamy electronic space atmospheres and cutting-edge techno all under one groove.

From the thumping first single ‘Planet 7’, to the hypnotic trance beats of ‘Back to Reality’, the electro of ‘Octopussy’, the ragga meets techno of ‘Kupuri’, the house influenced ‘Dance of the Deer’ and blissful closing track ‘Europa (Blue), System 7 crafted their most powerful and accomplished album to date.

This followed acclaimed releases including their Remix compilation album ‘Mysterious Traveller’, made in collaboration with Detroit techno pioneer, Derrick May, and their previous studio album “Seventh Wave”, coupled with superb 2004 live performances at Glastonbury, Beautiful Days & The Glade Festival, keeping their profile high.

“..Is this a beast or is this a beast?......Encantado features everything from tripped out chillout tracks to fullon psy-trance...” M8 MAGAZINE (in top 10 dance albums of 2004)

“...It’s something that will take you to that far away place....the production quality of the tracks is fantastic...” CLUB LIFE MAGAZINE

"Encantado" is a Spanish word that means "enchanted" or "entranced". Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy were inspired to use this title following a visit to Coba on the Yucatán Peninsula. They describe it thus:-

It was our third visit to Coba - perhaps the most magical of all the Mayan pyramid sites on the Yucatan peninsular. While waiting for a taxi back to Tulum we spent some time by the ancient lake and we were struck by a mysterious feeling of electrical presence. Whatever did happen to the old Mayas of the classic period who apparently vanished around the 10th century AD? The people who built Coba - originally a thriving city of up to 100,000 people, built on the shores of this same small lake.

The taxi came and we started our journey. The taxi driver was friendly and Miquette started to talk with him in Spanish. He told us he was from Coba village and was born there, from a Maya family that had always lived there. We told him how much we liked Coba, how we found it to be magical and we told him of the strange presence we felt at the lake. "That's no surprise", he said, "you are feeling the spirits of our ancestors. They are encantado……" "Does this mean we can even feel the spirits of the old Mayas that built the pyramids?", we asked. "Of course you can", he said, "we are all encantado……"
