about

With the Power of Seven album System 7 became firmly established in the mid 90s as a highly respected dance music project, and further recognized for their unique blend of techno, trance and ambient.

Power of Seven features collaborations with Youth, Carl Craig, Derrick May, The Orb’s Alex Paterson, and DJ Lewis Keogh.

“Interstate” the opening track features a sample from iconic German 70s psychedelic band Neu, which is treated in a very clever and uplifting System 7 way using an adventurous breakbeat.

This is followed by the techno/electro stormer “Civilization” featuring Steve Hillage’s electric guitar, recorded and mixed by Carl Craig in Detroit, then the chillout masterpiece “Davy Jones’ Locker” the collaboration with Alex Paterson, and “Big Sky City” featuring Derrick May.

The album builds to a faster and more trancey climax with “To the Power of Seven”, “Hangar 84”, and “Chicago Indian” – all written and produced by System 7’s Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy – and “Mektoub” the collaboration with Youth, before winding down with the more mellow and beautiful ambient house textures of “Europa”

Power of Seven was re-released in November 2000 on System 7’s own A-Wave label.
