about

Lifted by the success of their club singles and their live shows, System 7 released System Express - an album of remixes – in October 1996.

Some of the remixes were taken from the singles and some were specially remixed for the album. The album was sequenced as a continual DJ mix with all the tracks linked together.

Starting with an 11 minute edit of Richie Hawtin’s dynamite Plastikman mix of “AlphaWave”, the album also features Carl Cox’s techno remix of “Hangar 84”, Jacob’s Optical Stairway’s drum & bass remix of “Big Sky City”, Doc Scott’s legendary drum & bass remix of “Interstate”, and Marshall Jefferson’s remix of “Sirenes”.

The other 6 remixes are by System 7’s Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy and are all exclusive to this album release, as is the Jacob’s Optical Stairway remix.

The System 7 remixes include two tracks originally from the first System 7 album released by 10 Records / Virgin in 1991. These are the Derrick May collaboration track “Altitude”, presented here with the Easy Life Mix and System 7’s first ever track “Sunburst”, a collaboration with the Orb’s Alex Paterson, as the Atahualpa Mix.

Also featured is the Elastic Mix of “7:7 Expansion” the collaboration with Youth that was the lead track and single from the 777 album.

System Express was re-released in November 2000 on System 7’s own A-Wave label.
